When I am coaching job aspirants for interviews all of them are interested in learning how to answer common as well as tricky interview question. Even after coaching thousands very rarely have I come across a job aspirant who has asked me to train him on what questions should he/she ask as a candidate in an interview. With my over 35 plus experience, I can tell you good quality questions asked as a candidate can help you perform better at interviews and also get clarity about the match between your candidature and the job.
There are 3 interview questions which you as a candidate must ask at the end of every job interview. They are as follows:
Question 1: What are your expectations from me in the first 90 days of joining?
– This gives you an idea whether the expectations are unrealistic or practical or there is no clarity. It reduces chances of a mismatch in terms of expectations.
Question 2: What are the parameters / system you as a department / organisation use to measure the performance of employees?
– This gives you an idea whether there are set systems and guidelines on this front or not. Accordingly you know which areas to focus on.
Question 3: Can you tell me if during the past few years, there has been a bad hire and things did not work out with the hired candidate. What was the reason and areas of disconnect?
– This gives you an idea of what are the critical areas in the job role to perform it successfully or any other aspect that you need to keep in mind.
Once you have the answers, you will be better prepared for the next round of interview and it also helps you take a considered decision.
Best of luck!
