What if you have got an offer from an employer A and you simultaneously have reached a stage with employer B where you are going to be made an offer? Should you reveal to the employer B about the offer from employer A?
My tips :
1] Ask for 24 hours to think:
Whenever you get an offer, a good practice to follow is to always ask for a day (24 hours) to think. Do not accept an offer immediately even if you feel that it is the best offer. Because by asking for some time to think you are only reflecting on it so that you become sure about the offer; ultimately it is a career decision you are making. It is possible that you missed considering an important aspect about the job profile or clarifying a doubt. As they say- ‘Better to be sure than sorry’.
2] Negotiate if not yet sealed offer:
And if you have not yet signed on the dotted line or confirmed your acceptance of the offer from employer A, then you can share with employer B that you are considering and evaluating an offer from another employer and will take a holistic view of both offers and then decide. And also mention that you need to revert to employer A within a specific time frame. So in case the interviewer is really interested in hiring you, he/she can get back to you within the stipulated time frame. It puts you in a position of strength. You then go along with the offer whichever is overall attractive.
3] Integrity is greater than greed:
However if you have already accepted the offer from employer A in writing, then there is no point in negotiating with employer B. Because according to me an offer if once accepted means you got to stick to it as it is a question of your integrity and commitment and you cannot back out. Because if there is no integrity there is nothing.
Best of luck!
